Bringing back the 589th BSB

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany—The 589th Brigade Support Battalion reactivation ceremony was held at the Grafenwoehr Field House here, Jan. 11, 2019.
The 589th BSB falls under the 41st Field Artillery Brigade, the newest brigade to join the 7th Amy Training Command’s training readiness authority. The 41st FAB was activated late last year.
“Setting up a Brigade Support Battalion will be a challenging and rewarding chapter in our lives,” said Lt. Col. Ronald A. Veldhuizen, the new commander of the 589th BSB. “Over the few days we have been together, the unit’s reputation holds: results beyond expectations, advising and taking care of each other, and positive attitudes.”
The 589th BSB is the first of multiple battalion-level activations to come for the 41st FAB, as it rebuilds the foundations to the unit. “Our goal as a brigade is to be ready now,” said Col. Seth A. Knazovich, the commander of the 41st FAB. “We cannot reach that level of readiness without this logistics battalion.” This growth is part of the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act.
